DESCRIPTION
Fixed Retainer Wire (RETAINIUM 6 IN LENGTH) Classification: Retanium and Retanium XL Packaging: 10 wires of 6'' / tube Indication: For use in dentistry Manufacturer: Reliance (USA)
Outstanding Features:
- Permanent retention capability is significantly enhanced by using a dead-soft, flat 8-strand braided wire. Lingual splinting with this thin wire prevents torque control issues that can occur when using round braided wire for these procedures.
- When bonded to the lingual surface of upper anterior teeth, an ultra-thin rectangular wire can be fused with minimal interference from the lower anterior teeth.
- The dead-soft wire is highly adaptable and prevents unwanted tooth movement associated with active-force wires.
- Retanium is ideal for semi-permanent orthodontic splinting of upper or lower anterior teeth. It maintains closed anterior diastemas, holds difficult extraction spaces, and resolves other challenging splinting situations.
- Excellent for transverse splinting of teeth.
- Dimensions: Metric: 0.673 mm (w) × 0.268 mm (h) / Imperial: 0.02645 in (w) × 0.01055 in (h)
- Ideal for semi-permanent orthodontic splinting of upper or lower anteriors. Can be used to maintain closed diastemas, preserve extraction spaces, and address other difficult splinting scenarios.
- Excellent for splinting periodontally involved teeth.
- Dimensions: Metric: 0.673 mm (w) × 0.268 mm (h) / Imperial: 0.02645 in (w) × 0.01055 in (h)
- Contraindicated in patients with nickel allergy.
Instructions for Use:
- Clean teeth with 1st&Final pumice. Rinse and dry. Sandblast the lingual surfaces. Etch each enamel surface for 30 seconds. Rinse and dry completely.
- Apply bonding: Coat each etched tooth with one layer of Assure Plus, then apply a second thin, even layer. Light air-thin.
- Wire placement:
- Cut a segment of Retanium wire to the desired length. Bend the ends 45° toward the gingiva for 2–3 mm. This bend rounds the wire, locks it in the bonded position, and prevents sliding.
- Using flat pliers, hold the retainer wire in an occluso-gingival orientation and gently contour it to follow the lingual contour of the teeth.
- Use dental floss to hold the retainer wire against the lingual surfaces. Flow composite over the wire, ensuring maximum tooth contact and precise positioning.
Note: If Bond-A-Braid or Retainium® is used on teeth 1-1 or 2-2, we recommend combining it with a vacuum-formed thermoplastic retainer over the Bond-A-Braid/Retainium® for optimal results. Bond the wire retainer first, take an impression, and then fabricate the thermoplastic retainer.
